About Us
Since 2011, Yayasan Gajah Sumatera (YAGASU) has implemented two large scale mangrove restoration projects in the coastline of North Sumatra and Aceh Provinces with funding from the Livelihoods Funds. These projects have contributed to the restoration of c. 8,750 ha of mangrove ecosystems, primarily in areas converted into shrimp ponds in the late 1980’s. While the restoration phase of these two projects is now completed, YAGASU is currently looking for a Project manager to ensure the long-term protection of these restored areas through the development of community management and sustainable aquaculture.
