Thailand: Planning & Management of Development Projects w/ focus on RBM and M&E

Course Description

This capacity building training workshop is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of mid to senior level program/project managers working in government ministries/departments, civil society organizations and the donor community including UN agencies and bilateral aid agencies to understand the intricacy of RBM and the Monitoring & Evaluation system. The course begins with an overview of Project Cycle Management (PCM). At the beginning of a project planning cycle, it is important to determine what results are needed to be achieved, by when, and what needs to be done now, in order to successfully achieve set goals and objectives. Results should be based on a Theory of Change (TOC) that will guide the different phases of project implementation. The course also pays special attention to monitoring system to be set up during the implementation phase and initiating corrective actions. Course contents will include the TOC used for planning program/project interventions, and the use of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) as a tool to set the hierarchy of results-chain from inputs to activities, outputs and outcomes. Examples will be taken from existing country programs and projects of the participants.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and utilize the steps and processes of the Project Cycle Management (PCM) ;
  • Understand the Theory of Change (TOC) concept and apply it to planning their programs and projects;
  • Understand the role and use of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) and use of the LF matrix for results-based planning, implementation, project management and monitoring & evaluation;
  • Be able to develop a systematic implementation plan with the LFA, including results-oriented budget;
  • Understand various stages of human resource development (HRD) including recruitment, retention and capacity development as well as managing conflicts;
  • Identify major management functions including planning, supervision, leadership, teamwork and effective field-based monitoring of progress;
  • Apply acquired knowledge and skills to plan, manage and implement results-based program/project confidently;
  • Share learned country experiences from other participants to their colleagues in order to strengthen their own programs/projects;

Training Format

  • The course will be very interactive which includes instructor presentations, case studies, individual and group exercises and group presentations;
  • There is also a possibility of a field trip within the city or to a nearby province to observe projects using RBM. (Participants will need to pay for additional local transport if this takes place);
  • The medium of instruction is in English.
  • The course is conducted over a period of 7 working days (Saturday and Sunday are non-working days in Thailand)

Facilitators

Our Facilitators and Instructors have solid international and national development experiences working in Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. All of them have worked with Governments, UN agencies, Development Banks, NGOs or combination of all agencies in various capacities, including management of country programs.

Fee information:

Investment for this course is USD$ 2,000.00 per participant. This goes to pay for tuition fee and all training materials, 7 lunches and 14 refreshments (during the class days) and a certificate;
The fees do NOT cover the cost of airfares, airport pick-up and drop-off, local transportation, visa and hotel accommodation;
ADCC is NOT in a position to offer any scholarships or funding. Participants are encouraged to seek funding opportunities with their employers or funding agencies.
EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT and OTHER DISCOUNTS An “Early Bird” discount of 10% of the tuition fee is provided if the course fee is paid on or before 30 days of the course start date;
