Caritas Indonesia (KARINA Foundation) was legally established on May 17, 2006 and is an official humanitarian organization belonging to the KWI (Indonesian Bishops' Conference) with a mandate as a center for coordination, facilitation and animation of the Catholic Church in Indonesia in carrying out humanitarian missions, especially to assist disaster victims. natural or natural disasters caused by human action. In addition, in collaboration with KWI, Caritas Indonesia also carries out humanitarian missions in the issues of human rights violations, conflict and social violence, inter-religious dialogue in humanitarian action, gender injustice and various acts of social injustice. The first step to strengthen Caritas Indonesia's position (KARINA Foundation) as a humanitarian organization for the Catholic Church in Indonesia, was to hold the First National Consultation attended by 37 Dioceses in July 2006. This consultation was also attended by representatives from Caritas Internationalis and several Caritas members from other countries. Caritas Indonesia is a member of the Caritas Internationalis Confederation, whose members come from 165 countries around the world. Caritas Indonesia (KARINA Foundation) is heavily involved in services in the humanitarian sector, such as emergency response, disaster risk reduction activities, community resilience building, and capacity building for diocese social institutions.
