Work Area : The Tiger Protection Coordinator will be based in Jambi, Sumatera
Hours of Work : Monday to Friday from 09.00 am up to 05.00 pm
Reporting to : Tiger Conservation Project Manager
Key Purpose of the Job
Tiger Protection Coordinator will assist the Tiger Conservation Project Manager in coordinating the Tiger Protection and Patrol Units (TPPUs) operating in ZSL Indonesia’s areas of operation (Berbak & Sembilang National Parks and the Dangku Wildlife Reserve) and the Human Tiger Conflict (HTC) Teams operating across the Berbak, Sembilang and Dangku landscapes.
ZSL The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.
1. In collaboration with Ministry of Environment & Forestry (MoEF), establish and coordinate the
TPPUs and HTC teams especially with regards to tackling Human-Wildlife conflict situations
around the three protected areas.
2. Responsible for updating and maintaining databases and administration systems, ensuring
accuracy of inputting and reports.
3. Communicate with relevant stakeholders at both regional and national levels.
4. Ensure the achievement of project activities and high performance in accordance with the
project work plan.
5. Provide monthly reports to the Tiger Conservation Project Manager.
• The job requires continued professional internal and external interaction/ communications,
both in person and via phone and email.
• Establish and manage communication and coordination with stakeholders, especially law
enforcement agencies including the Indonesia Police and Ministry of Environment and Forestry
This post will be mentally demanding; often the post-holder will find themselves in unexpected situations and be required to take quick decisions, finding solutions and deciding upon the best strategy to take.
This post will require time flexibility due to human-tiger conflict work often happening out of office hours.

A. Qualifications & Experience
1. Minimum Bachelor degree in Biology and Forestry, Animal Health Paramedic and/or other
related field with equivalent experience
2. Extensive experience in wildlife conservation or a closely related area
3. Minimum 7 years’ successful experience working in similar position with an
4. Self-motivated and resourceful, with the proven ability to multi-task and operate
successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures.
5. Prior experience in managing and developing a team
1. An understanding of Indonesian Laws on forestry and wildlife
C. Skills & Abilities
1. Computer literacy (excellent IT skills); competent in the use of Microsoft Excel,
Word, and other MS tool
2. Familiar with conservation – related software programme e.g GIS (Arcview, MapSource),
SMART would be an advantage
3. Good ability in project planning, implementation, and evaluation
4. Able to work independently without supervision but also accustomed to working in a
5. Good communications skills – able to express complex information in a simple and
6. Self-starter, pro-active and uses initiative – can work independently and priorities
own work load.
7. Preferably a high level of written and spoken English.
