USAID SEGAR is seeking 3 (three) short-term technical assistants/Consultants to Develop Pitch-deck and identify potential investors for Biodiversity Conservation in Important Ecosystem Areas (IEA) Kalimantan:

  • One Consultant for IEA Central Kalimantan (Sekonyer)
  • One Consultant for IEA East Kalimantan (Lahan Basah Mesangat-Suwi/LBMS),
  • One Consultant for IEA West Kalimantan (Koridor Orangutan Ketapang).

USAID SEGAR is a five-year (2021 – 2026) project funded by USAID, designed to advancing Indonesia’s development goals in balancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable land use with sustainable economic development and livelihoods inclusive. To achieve this, districts with high conservation values and high carbon stocks are becoming an area of USAID SEGAR support, it is hoped that resource management will improve nature and be more measurable in conserving biodiversity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions glass from unsustainable land use, as well as promote economic growth sustainable and inclusive.

Within the context to achieve effectiveness of sustainable land use with inclusive economic, Important Ecosystem Areas (KEP/IEA) will be the key to create inter-connections of environmental governance and development of strategic area for biodiversity.

With a growing emphasis on “green growth,” local governments are attempting to better position to capture investment from public or private sector companies who demonstrate a preference for more sustainable districts. To achieve this, district governments who have recognized Important Ecosystem Area (IEA) the protection and management of HCV area in their jurisdiction should be able to map out the potential investors that can support the goal of biodiversity conservation in the area.

USAID SEGAR has agreed to provide support to three IEAs, Central Kalimantan (Sekonyer), East Kalimantan (Lahan Basah Mesangat-Suwi/LBMS), and West Kalimantan (Koridor Orangutan Ketapang), in expanding the potential investment due to the biodiversity conservation opportunities in these landscapes. This support targets both public and private sectors, focusing on conservation-based community development, organizational development of management unit, and restoration/habitat enrichment. The STTA will work separately and engage with the management and stakeholders of in the specific Area.

Objectives

Provide support to develop a pitch deck on biodiversity conservation actions and identify potential investors for Central Kalimantan (Sekonyer), East Kalimantan (Lahan Basah Mesangat-Suwi/LBMS), and West Kalimantan (Koridor Orangutan Ketapang), including assistance in presenting the opportunities to the identified investors.

Expected Outputs

  1. Three set of pitch-deck of investment opportunities to support biodiversity conservation actions in three Important Ecosystem Areas (IEA), which include activities such as conservation-based community development, organizational development of management unit, and restoration/habitat enrichment.
  2. List of potential investors (public and private sectors) in a narrative report.
  3. Arrange meetings for USAID SEGAR with at least three potential investors.
  4. Potential investment from public or private sectors interested in biodiversity conservation projects Study/Assessment Report (Investment Mapping in Biodiversity Conservation Study Report)

Key Tasks

  1. A list of biodiversity conservation actions needed in the three Important Ecosystem Areas (IEA). LoE 2 days
  2. Develop Pitch-deck of investment opportunities to support biodiversity conservation actions in three Important Ecosystem Areas (IEA). LoE 10 days.
  3. Research and identify potential investment from public or private sectors interested in biodiversity conservation projects. LoE 10 days
  4. Engage with potential investors for the three IEAs. LoE 5 days
  5. Arrange the meeting of USAID SEGAR with at least three potential investors. LoE 3 days.

Deliverables

The assigned consultant will deliver the following items:

  1. Pitch-deck of Biodiversity Conservation Important Ecosystem Areas (IEA) Kalimantan.
  2. List of potential investments (community development, organizational development, restoration/habitat enrichment)
  3. List of potential investors (public and private sectors)
  4. Schedule meeting of USAID SEGAR with at least three potential investors.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of working experience in sustainable development and natural resource management activities particularly in Kalimantan for candidates with a master/postgraduate’s degree or 10 years for candidates with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Educational background should be relevant to forestry or natural resources conservation investment.
  • Demonstrates excellent and accurate writing skills both in Bahasa and English.
  • Possesses knowledge and experience in preparing planning documents related to environmental governance, forestry, land, and livelihood.
  • Having experience and knowledge in developing biodiversity conservation and/or environmental investment planning.
  • Proven record of accomplishment in government and private sector engagement, as well as good communication skills.
  • Familiar with the socio-cultural aspects of Acehnese and Kalimantan communities, forest management, mapping of potential timber and non-timber forest products, and environmental services potential.
  • Understanding of conservation issues, biodiversity, restoration, social forestry, and community empowerment around forests.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders such as government, private sector, and communities.
  • Proven ability to work independently with supervision.
  • Fluent in English and Indonesian.
