We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Yayasan Pesisir Lestari (YPL) is a Bali-based marine conservation organisation that aims to empower coastal communities managing their local marine ecosystems in ways that enrich livelihoods and sustain healthy oceans for generations to come. In cooperation with Blue Ventures, a UK-based marine conservation organisation, we are building partnerships with local organisations who work closely with coastal communities across provinces in Indonesia

Job Description

YPL is seeking a Site Coordinator to launch and oversee the implementation of the Integrated Blue Forest Project in Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau. The Site Coordinator will coordinate activities as well as develop and nurture the partnerships on the ground – with communities, local organisations, the private sector, and the government – that will be central to the success of the site.
This exciting position will work alongside our passionate, growing team in Indonesia, and will be managed by the Conservation Programmes Manager. The Site Coordinator will engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, supporting them to adapt and replicate our holistic approach and foster a shared vision for effective community-led marine management.

In the Indragiri Hilir region, mangroves are under threat from timber harvesting for house construction, fuel wood, charcoal production, and many more. Therefore, developing and nurturing partnerships with the communities, private sector, and the government, will be a key responsibility of this position.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, proactive, strategic and highly organized individual, with a keen interest and passion in working in the marine conservation sector and strong skills in building relationships and supporting collaboration with multiple actors.

While the site’s main office will be in Indragiri Hilir, the candidate is expected to spend extended periods of time in the field. The role offers the opportunity for strategic thinkers to engage with coastal communities and partners on mangrove and marine conservation challenges. The evolving nature of the organisation will give the candidate opportunities to apply original and innovative thinking to diverse tasks and challenges.
