Love Frankie is a social change research and communication agency that specializes in supporting public and private sector organizations to design and implement social impact projects. We design social and behaviour change campaigns across a broad range of issues including countering hate speech, discrimination and extremism; human trafficking and migration; LGBTI rights; gender equality and women’s empowerment; and environment and sustainability issues.
Our research approaches are varied and often include mixing methodologies including online communities, social media analytics, mobile ethnography as well as more traditional quantitative and qualitative approaches.
We are headquartered in Bangkok and work through our teams and partners on projects across the Asia-Pacific region in Indonesia, Singapore, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines and Australia.
About the role
Love Frankie is currently working on Indonesia-specific programs that will include several research studies that require additional on-the-ground research logistical support and analysis.
Working closely with the Research Manager (based in Jakarta), Research & Insight Director (remote) and program managers (based in Jakarta), the Research & Insight Executive will be responsible for managing all aspects of the research fieldwork process across a broad range of sensitive and important research projects. Your daily work will include moderating and interviewing research targets, liaising with partners and vendors, and analyzing and reporting on key projects in Indonesia, among other duties as needed.
The role will commence with one week of core training split between Bangkok and Jakarta during which you will get to know our team, culture, processes and policies and ways of working.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fieldwork partner relationships: maintain contacts and good working relationships with a range of high quality fieldwork partners across the Asia Pacific region, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. These groups include, but are not limited to: respondent recruitment agencies, translators and/or translation agencies; focus group or interview venues; focus group moderators and/or quantitative survey managers; data processors; consultants, etc.
Fieldwork project management: work together with the research manager and other key positions to establish and maintain deadlines for key deliverables that are realistic and in line with client needs; communicate potential or actual obstacles or challenges in a timely manner and develop strategies for overcoming them.
Budget management: work with the research manager and Finance Director to prepare costings for fieldwork based on research designs, negotiate costs with fieldwork providers to maximise value, manage budgets as projects progress to ensure minimum over-spend, manage research respondent incentive budgets, payment and expensing, and ensure partner invoicing is completed in a timely manner.
Research team logistics and expenses: support the research manager with research fieldwork including liaising with travel agents to book appropriate flights, hotels and visas in line with the fieldwork schedule, locations and budget.
Recruitment criteria and screeners: work with the research manager to develop detailed and realistic specs for the respondents needed for research projects as well as recruitment screeners to ensure respondents meet the criteria. With the Research Manager, brief fieldwork partners during pre-recruitment and then brief respondents if needed. During fieldwork, monitor respondents to ensure they meet the criteria once on-site .
Stakeholder recruitment and scheduling: when research projects involve recruitment of respondents directly, manage this process including: identify respondent contact details, engage and gain consent for participation, schedule research respondent interviews in collaboration with the research manager and ensure respondents are appropriately incentivised and/or thanked for their participation.
Ethics, Data Security Management & Quality Assurance
Ethical and legal procedures in fieldwork and data security: ensure fieldwork partners and/or internal research teams are following the highest standards of ethical procedures in terms of confidentiality, anonymity, respondent safeguarding and informed consent (as appropriate to their age and safeguarding needs), research data capture/recording and secure storage.
Data quality assurance: ensure fieldwork partners provide high quality data deliverables including complete transcripts, raw data files and other research media. Review raw data and conduct quality checks as needed in conjunction with research manager.
Participate in the analysis of the data and the final report publications
Support the Research Manager/Research Director in the design and development of deliverables to inform programs and clients through research findings by providing insights to inform and evaluate communications programs
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
At least 2 years work experience doing a similar role in a research agency or similar organization
Passion for research and social impact work
Good contextual knowledge of national issues and priorities, along with social and cultural realities in Indonesia
Excellent English skills (speaking and writing) and fluency in Bahasa
Strong relationship management skills and the highest level of professionalism
Ability to organize and work both independently and within teams
Strong analytical and writing skills
Strong project management and coordination skills
Excellent budgeting and costing skills ideally across multiple currencies
Experience in qualitative, ideally along with quantitative field research methods
Experience in running or moderating research sessions
Understanding and experience managing research fieldwork for projects
Understanding of ethical and legal procedures surrounding research respondent security and consent; data security
Experience with surveys, data analytics, data processing and analysis
Ability to use SPSS, STATA, NVivo and/or Python/R desired
Language skills in other regional languages such as Javanese (Central/East) or Sundanese
