Job Description

  • Represent organization within relevant national stakeholder groups including industry, technical and certification and standard-setting bodies.
  • Lead the delivery of a long-term communication strategy focused on key policy issues in through proactive communication on our commitment to and investments in the local economy
  • Develop and execute proactive campaigns in support of Solidaridad’s local policy goals, shaped with an awareness of the policy and regulatory landscape.
  • Identify and build relationships with third-party stakeholders whose advocacy is aligned with Solidaridad’s positions, including across academia, industry associations, and the general public
  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies that utilize policy communications to advance business opportunities on key Solidaridad’s policy priorities.
  • Establish and foster local, regional, and national media relationships by serving as a trusted source of information about Solidaridad. This includes leading inbound press enquiries which may require a media strategy, message development, and reporting.
  • Translate complex policy concepts into plain language for press, policymakers, and the general public
  • Craft and develop suitable content – including messaging, social media release, bylines, FAQs and corporate narratives.
  • Deliver communications counsel to Solidaridad’s executives on both short- and long-term challenges and opportunities, earning trust with executives across many parts of the Solidaridad’s programs.
  • In consultation with technical staff and network members, blogs and newsletter for REC Office and Solidaridad Network-Global Communication, review and monitor the deliverables of design and content stories.
  • Provide editorial expertise to design and develop publications, briefings and presentations targeting diverse audiences.
  • Provide technical advice in communications and guide program staff to enhance their communication skills.
  • Internal communication — Manage the project resources database along with program Managers for the projects.
  • Prepare Solidaridad’s executives to serve as a spokesperson on a wide range of issues.
  • Preparation of high-quality communication reports and regular program summaries.
  • Attend workshops and training programs for skill upgradation as appropriate.
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned by Country Manager from time to time.

Job Requirements

The person must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • A Bachelor’s or advanced Degree in marketing, communications, journalism or related field;
  • A total of 8-10 years of experience with at least 5 years of experience working on communication issues in key domains such sustainable commodities, climate change, risk and resilience, ideally in the agriculture sector;
  • Experience of working with multilateral or bilateral agencies, donor-funded projects, INGOs, thinktanks, foundations, or consulting firms;
  • Demonstratable skills and previous experience with communications research and strategy, media relations, developing content for various audiences, digital engagement best practices, network management, and event planning and management;
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale communications campaigns and leading media strategies on reputational issues

The person should be/have:

  • Extensive experience working with policymakers, media, industry analysts, and other corporate influencers
  • Knowledge of social media platforms to help with campaign and outreach planning;
  • Knowledge of the local technology and media landscape
  • Knowledge of the local tech policy landscape
  • Ability to create eye-catching headlines
  • Ability to develop scripts for video documentaries
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills combined with strong analytical skills in relevant areas;
  • Excellent team working, relationship management, team-building and interpersonal skills; ability to multi-task and work collaboratively with multiple teams; a keen eye for detail; and a commitment to delivering high quality output;
  • Willingness to travel extensively as required both within and outside the country.
  • To undertake such other duties as are commensurate with the grade of the post.
