Position Overview:

We need two Literacy Project Managers (LPO) to lead the planning, management, and execution for all work related to implementing YLAI’s Literacy program at the field level. S/he will plan, oversee and monitor the implementation, coordination, development, and reporting of the Literacy program for a set of schools.  S/he would serve as the main point of contact for the schools and local government officials and coordinate the work of literacy field officers in his/her jurisdiction. The Literacy Project Manager will report directly to the YLAI Program Manager and will have the field officer reporting to him/her. This position will involve frequent travel to field locations in rural areas as well as regular interaction with education officials, school administrators, teachers, and students. This position would preferably be based near the project location (District/Sub District/Village).



Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing the implementation of the Literacy program at the project area ensuring timely, efficient and well-coordinated implementation, adhering to the program.
  • Responsible for managing relationships with school, community, and government counterparts in their jurisdiction and respond to issues that may arise in these relationships.
  • Maintain and assist project development including budget planning, program planning, and monitoring, and general management
  • Coordinate a variety of events based on timeline and ensure that program at the district and school levels run effectively and in line with the timeline.
  • Manage and maintain project with the team and collaborate with head office
  • Ensure that all program schools receive books, materials at the appropriate time
  • Ensure that all teacher training and facilitator training are held as per plan and program guidelines by coordinating with the field officer.
  • Ensure project procedures tools and templates are in line with standard
  • Develop and monitor implementation project plans for all activities.
  • Coordinate and supervise all aspects of the program and the activities of the field trainers.
  • Supervise the work of the field trainers and ensure the quality of the implementation.
  • Make regular visits to program schools alone and with key government officials from sub-district/district, and observe and monitor classroom management, balanced reading instruction, and classroom library management.
  • Ensure effective utilization of program budget through proper planning and tracking of planned activities.
  • Prepare cash advance, settlement, and reimbursement for program activities

  • At least bachelor degree in education/social science or equivalent
  • Have at least 5 years of Project Manager experience, preferably in a Non-Profit Organization and other relevant organization
  • Excellent project management skills and evidence of successful project management
  • Good analytical thinking, decision making, problem-solving skills, communication, and advocacy skills
  • Strong leadership skills and able to work with a team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Result-driven and target-oriented
  • Able to work independently, initiative, proactive in resolving technical & coordination’s issue
  • Proficient in English both verbal and written
  • Willing to be placed at the project site in rural areas
  • Can ride a motorcycle and has SIM C


  • Prior experience living and/or working in rural areas
  • Prior experience working with schools, teachers, administrators and government officials
  • Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of tasks as well as developing and implementing improvements in a prior position
  • Preferably knowing about the revision of the 2013 curriculum


The salary range for this position will be determined based upon the experience of the candidate hired. Health benefits and accommodation /transport benefits are also provided.
