Yayasan Mercy Corps Indonesia (YMCI) is a local Indonesian non-profit organization, which implements humanitarian and development assistance programs throughout the country. YMCI’s mission is to empower people in Indonesia to become healthy, productive, and resilient communities. Resilience means an ability to recover form or adjust easily to misfortune or change.
Mercy Corps will support female coffee farmers, coffee farmers’ wives, and young women in communities in Bandung and Garut Regencies to improve their economy, hygiene, health and leadership to contribute to the resilience of coffee growing families in Indonesia. We will achieve this through increased access to financial services, business training and mentoring, and technical expertise for business development. We will pair these activities with critical water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) activities and infrastructure support, as well as training on healthy development, particularly related to stunting management. Through our collaborative partnership model, we will work with a variety of stakeholders (financial institutions, business organizations, peer networks and local government and private sector) to deliver products and services to program participants, while building networks and infrastructure that will enable sustainable impact well-beyond the life of the program.

- Enhance the knowledge of financial and business literacy for female coffee farmers through training and mentoring, in collaboration with formal financial institutions, and
- Support the development of nonfarming businesses for coffee farmers’ wives through digital mentoring services and access to formal financial products and services.
This program will directly impact 1,800 female coffee farmers/coffee farmers’ wives (who have non-farming businesses), as well as 200 young women (< 35 years) in Bandung and Garut Regencies. The 2,000 direct participants will receive training and mentoring in financial and business literacy and development, access to financial services, and support via WASH infrastructure and education. We anticipate that 5,400 family members will benefit indirectly through education and/or access to financial services and increased economic activities.
Program Officer (PO) – Bandung and Garut Regencies
General Position Summary
Program Officers will ensure that at least 1,800 female coffee farmers and coffee farmers’ wives and 200 young women in two regencies have completed all financial and business literacy training and mentoring activities and improved access to health services and WASH facilities as well. S/he will supervise the needs assessments, identify program participants and local facilitators who will deliver training and mentoring to program participants. In addition, S/he will collaborate closely with the project partners team, including formal financial institutions, the District Government Agencies, Community Business Organizations (CBOs) and other local stakeholders.
The position is based in Bandung and Garut Regencies and requires up to 60 % travel to program locations (depend on COVID-19 development).
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Organize and supervise implementation of needs assessments and technical WASH assessment.
- Identify target of the project participants and locations based on the project criteria and consultations with local stakeholders.
- Coordinate with project partners at district, sub-district and village levels to fulfil the deliverables agreed on.
- Coordinate with government agencies and women/female coffee farmers’ business organizations in selected locations.
- Prepare the kick-off program event in partnerships with local stakeholder (if needed);
- Support the project partners’ team, particularly formal financial institutions, and business development services providers.
- Organize delivery of Training of Trainers (ToT) for local facilitators for women/female coffee farmers’ business based on the project’s plan and guidance.
- Organize implementation of training and mentoring for 2,000 program participants in selected locations based on the project’s plan and guidance.
- Collect data monitoring data based on established indicators as per the project’s plan and guidance.
- Maintain close regular contact with the local government agencies and local partners to ensure quality outputs/services and trouble shoot any administrative problems.
- Support the program coordinator to implement project visibility plan.
- Support the program coordinator to prepare monthly and final reports as required by the donor.
- Attend coordination meetings and maintain regular contact with relevant stakeholder.
- Participate in the weekly call
- Conduct travel to project locations to monitor quality of implementation, and adjust plans and approaches to meet the project objectives;
- University degree, preferable in social sciences, economics, rural development.
- 2+ years’ experience working in development programs with emphasis on economic development in rural setting (experience in training and mentoring programs for women/female farmers/youth would be an advantage).
- Experience working with the private sector, business organizations and government agencies at district level
- Strong organizational skills
- Computers skills with strong familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- English verbal and written communication skills
- Willingness to travel to project sites on a regular basis.
