Founded in 2016, MADANI Berkelanjutan has focused on strengthening public policies to improve natural resource governance and empowering civil society movements through research, advocacy, and campaigns aimed at building a more just and sustainable Indonesia.

One of MADANI Berkelanjutan’s key initiatives is the Climate and Ecosystem Program, which aims to promote sustainable ecosystem governance as a strategy to address climate change equitably, with a strong emphasis on protecting the rights of vulnerable groups.

We are currently seeking a Program Officer for Climate and Ecosystem to join our team and contribute to the planning, implementation, and advocacy efforts of this important program.

Objectives of Position

Program Officer for Climate and Ecosystem is responsible for the direct management and implementation of key components of the program, including policy research and advocacy, public campaign and strategy development, stakeholder networking and convening and enhancing local partners contribution in community empowerment.

The Program Officer will work closely with other Program Officers within the unit and coordinate across divisions, including Knowledge Management Division, Communication Division and other relevant teams, to ensure effective and integrated program delivery. Key responsibilities include program development and conceptualization, day-to-day implementation, coordination, and reporting. The Program Officer will also contribute to monitoring and evaluation efforts, in collaboration with the Team Leader, to support continuous learning and improvement or program outcomes.

Key Responsibilities and Job Functions

Program Development and Implementation

  • Contribute to the day-to-day management of the Climate and Ecosystem Program, including the design of work plans, activity implementation and reporting
  • Support the development of policy research and analysis, policy briefs and communication materials
  • Facilitate collaboration with local partners in program planning and implementation, including assessing feasibility, reviewing work plans, monitoring and refining program and activity designs
  • Assist to utilize research and analysis results to strengthen program strategies, advocacy works, campaign materials and publication
  • Coordinate closely with other divisions – such as the Knowledge Management Division, Communication Division and other program teams – to ensure coherence and alignment across the organization
  • Support stakeholder engagement, networking and convening across civil society organizations, government agencies, private sectors and other institutions
  • Represent MADANI Berkelanjutan in relevant meetings, forums, advocacy events and multi-stakeholders dialogues
  • Contribute to program monitoring, evaluation and learning processes, including collecting and managing relevant data and documenting program outcomes and lessons learned
  • Prepare administrative documentation for program activities, including events, meetings and travel arrangement
  • Carry out other relevant tasks as assigned by the team leader or director to support overall organization needs

Requirement and Competencies

Education: 

Advanced degree in environmental sciences, forestry, public policy, social sciences (international relations, political science, gender), development studies, law, geography and other relevant fields.
Experience: 
  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in program implementation, policy advocacy, research, or social development related to climate action, environmental and forest governance and sustainable development
  • Solid knowledge of climate change, sustainable ecosystem management and community-based natural resource governance, both at the local and national levels in Indonesia
  • Proven experience working with civil society organizations, government institutions and/or international development partners
  • Proficiency in GIS, spatial planning, participatory mapping or other data visualization tools is preferred
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders at both the national and local levels is highly desirable
Other Competencies: 
  • Interest in the political economy dimensions of environmental and climate policy in Indonesia and international
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong analytical, writing and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with NGOs, government institutions, donors and internal colleagues
  • Proficiency in standard office software, including word processing and spreadsheet applications (e.g., MS. Office or Google Workspace)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Adaptable, proactive and able to work in dynamic and complex environments as parts of a multidisciplinary team
