Key Purpose of the Job
Livelihood Manager will responsible to provide the baseline information of socioeconomic aspect on selected villages and ensure the implementation of sustainability plan by building and maintaining the relationship with local communities and local government.
This position is part of UKCCU/NICFI Project staffing in South Sumatra.
The UKCCU/NICFI Project works with the Government of South Sumatra, national and district level governments, communities and the private sector to facilitate and support the government, private sector and local communities, to establish and pilot the sustainable landscape management partnership approach in the Sembilang-Dangku landscape of South Sumatra. The proposed impact of this project is to achieve “Inclusive economic growth and community prosperity, biodiversity conservation, forest protection and restoration, and the ending of deforestation, peatland drainage and wildfires that contribute to land-based Greenhouse Gas emissions”.
The Livelihood Manager will be based in Palembang.
Responsibility for Resources
The Livelihood Manager will report directly to the Deputy Project Director, and indirectly to the Project Director.
The post-holder will ensure that operations in Palembang are in compliance with ZSL and the contractual agreement with the UK government.
S/he will be responsible for supervising the Community Business Development Specialist, the Community Outreach & Awareness Officer and the Community Empowerment Officer.
Main duties and key responsibilities
1.Responsible to build relationship with the relevant government institution at sub-national and local communities related with sustainable livelihood in the landscape.
2.Responsible to maintain the communication between the community, village officials and other civil society organization related with livelihood issues and the ZSL.
3.Lead his/her team to collect strong baseline information on socio-economic aspects on selected villages and develop project intervention on livelihood.
4.Lead the team to map village level community land tenure legality through the participatory mapping approach in collaboration with identified local Civil Society Organization.
5.Design and develop local community sustainable livelihood plan with intensive community participation in order to improve community income through developing community-based livelihood models.
6.Creating sustainable income generating through sustainable intensification, certification and best management climate-smart practices to promote market access.
7.Responsible to coordinate the community events including planning team meetings, producing workplan, sourcing resources, contacting volunteers, marketing and promotion, managing the day and feedback and evaluation.
8.Keeping accurate records of community events, including evaluation of programmes and contact information for participating organizations.
9.Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with other local organizations including community groups and businesses, working in partnership to enhance nature conservation and developing opportunities for all people to get involved.
10.Lead the project intervention to develop a community livelihood model such as community-based fire management, agroecology, community based peatland management, community based conservation and social forestry.
11.Lead project intervention on empowering village governance and village landuse planning and management.
12.Responsible in managing partners (ensure the partners’ activities and deliverables are on schedule and report submission on timely manner).
13.there general project-related duties as and when required.
• The job requires continued professional internal and external interaction/ communications, both in person and via phone and email, with ZSL colleagues in both the Palembang and Jambi office with local project partners.
• The position will require close attention to detail therefore concentration on the work in hand, precision and accuracy being vital attributes.
•The position will be relatively routine in terms of day-to-day tasks during office hours. However, during field trips or when a workshop is being organized for example, some flexibility in working hours may be required.
•This post is office based in ZSL’s office in Bogor, West Java. However, travel to field sites and other ZSL offices will be required.

Qualifications & Experience
•Minimum Master degree in a related discipline e.g. forestry, biology, natural resource management, or conservation.
•Minimum 10 years’ successful experience working in similar position with an international NGO.
•Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, financial and organizational development skills, strong coaching skills and excellent analytical and financial planning skills.
•Strong analytical and interpretative problem solving skills.
• Self-motivated and resourceful, with the proven ability to multi-task and operate successfully under tight deadlines and time pressures.
•Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Previous work (directly or indirectly) with Government of Indonesia Institutions would also be a strong advantage.
•Understanding about community livelihood strategies.
•Understanding about wildlife conservation, particularly in Indonesia is an advantage.
•Knowledge of national and local government policies and regulations.
Skills & Abilities
•Computer literacy (excellent IT skills); competent in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other MS tools.
•Able to work independently without supervision but also accustomed to working in a team.
•Good communications skills – able to express complex information in a simple and succinct manner.
•Self-starter, pro-active and uses initiative – can work independently and priorities own work load.
•Preferably a high level of written and spoken English.
•Good oral, written, presentation and facilitation skills.
•Flexible and able to work under pressure and often to tight deadlines; including an ability to prioritize jobs.
•Willing to work at any circumstances both independently or in a group, such as in remote areas with very limited facilities.
•Excellent in writing skills and oral communication both in Indonesian and English.
•Able to deal with tight schedule and unscheduled tasks and target oriented.
•Willing to travel extensively across the project sites in Indonesia.
