The Organisation
 
Tara Climate is a new philanthropic re-granting initiative in Asia that supports a diverse group of partners to accelerate the transition to sustainable, clean energy. Tara Climate is currently hosted at the European Climate Foundation, but with a mandate to localise and become an independent Asia-based regional foundation in the near future. Tara Climate’s vision is a just and thriving Asia powered by renewable energy. It works in South, Southeast, and East Asia excluding India and China.

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was established in 2008 to help Europe foster the development of a low-carbon society and play an even stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change.  Tara Climate plays three main roles in the region: providing grants to a diverse group of partners in the region, constantly developing and assessing strategy, and convening of partners within and across borders.

The Role

Working closely with the Tara Climate managing director and the leadership team, you will ensure strategic coherence, integration, and growth of the Indonesia programme within the overall Tara Climate energy transition programme. You will network and partner with diverse stakeholders including civil society organisations, foundations, governments, businesses, and others, building collaboration and a creative shared approach to problem-solving. Your other key accountabilities are to:

  • Lead the country programme strategy together with key partners
  • Manage a national portfolio of grants
  • Develop the country resources requirements, budget plans, forecasts, and reviews
  • Proactively scan political, energy, and economic environments
  • Build/coordinate a strong network across multiple in-country and regional stakeholders
  • Guide and advise grantees, partners, and prospective partners

Skills Required
 
You will be an experienced and strategic leader with an environmental or foundation background with a strong grasp of energy policy and energy system transformation in Indonesia. You have sound knowledge of, and deep networks within, Indonesia, including development think tanks, research centres, NGOs, the financial sector, and other related organisations. You are a skilled and trusted stakeholder and government relations manager, equally able to work with both corporates and civil society groups, and you have a demonstrated commitment to solving the climate crisis and enabling systemic change.  Ideally you also offer:

  • Deep understanding of the Indonesian political and economic context
  • Track record of delivering positive outcomes across national stakeholder groups
  • Strong political savvy, established networks, and expert networking skills, including with donors
  • Demonstrated understanding of how to drive systemic change
  • Excellent strategic capabilities as well as organisational and self-management skills
  • Experience working and building funding relationships with philanthropic funders/donors
  • Impeccable ethics, and experience working confidentially and operating with high security
  • Highly collaborative and flexible work style including across global time zones; willing to travel
  • Fluency in Bahasa Indonesian; sharp written and verbal skills, fluent English language skills
  • Work and residency rights for Indonesia are a requirement for this role
