Expert for Teaching Development

Job Description

Expert for Teaching Development will work closely as a Counterpart for External Pedagogical Adviser at Teacher Training and Pedagogical College (STKIP) Weetebula, Sumba, Indonesia.

Since 2012, STKIP Weetebula has been cooperating with an international donor agency from Germany, Misereor/KZE in improving the quality and capacity of STKIP as an institution producing qualified teachers for Sumba Island. STKIP currently needs to hire an expert to work as a counterpart for our external pedagogical adviser from Germany in teaching development program.

Task and responsibilities:

  • Conducting comprehensive studies/research on education situation in Sumba
  • Organizing workshop, training or seminar on fundamental of learning and teaching method to STKIP’s lecturers and students as well as to teachers of partner schools around Sumba
  • Supporting partner schools in developing teaching practice program (PPL)
  • Participating in national/international conference and implementing the knowledge management
  • Creating dialogue and sharing experience in learning activities with other institutions in improving the education quality in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara

Job Requirements

  1. A master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development or other relevant subjects
  2. Excellence command/highly proficient in spoken and written English
  3. Minimum 2 years of experience working in education field or working in a non-profit organization
  4. Able to work with colleagues in a multicultural environement and able to work under tight deadlines
  5. Willing to live in Sumba

Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan (STKIP) or Teacher Training and Pedagogical College of Weetebula Sumba is a new higher institution which was established by Yapnusda, in 2009 and received the operational permit from the Ministry of Education in 2013. The aim of the establishment of STKIP Weetebula is to contribute toward the improvement of education situation in Sumba and East Nusa Tenggara province (NTT). The education situation in NTT is lagging behind other provinces and it is shown in NTT human development index in 2015,  the ranking is 32 out of 34 provinces in Indonesia.

To achieve those goals, STKIP has to deal with many challenges such as the provision of well-trained lecturers, to adapt and improvise the national Curricula, providing classrooms and other campus infrastructures as well as to have good management system. Since February 2012, Misereor-financed projects have been running to support STKIP in achieving its goals.
