The Position:

This consultancy will support our childhood lead poisoning prevention program and will be based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The selected candidate will report to the program director and will provide in-country programmatic support. S/he will collaborate with a team of environmental health scientists, policy, and communications experts across Vital Strategies and work with a wide range of stakeholders, including donors, national and sub-national governments, communities, and healthcare service providers. This program is in partnership with UNICEF Indonesia and may require direct reporting to UNICEF Indonesia staff. Applicants must be effectively bilingual in Bahasa Indonesia and English. We expect that the consultant will work, on average, 40 hours weekly.

Scope of work:

  • Become proficient in the health effects, exposure pathways, and key sources of lead in Indonesia
  • Develop and sustain partnerships with government and non-government stakeholders in various relevant sectors including health, environment, energy, and education
  • Support project start-up, recruitment, contracting, and procurement activities
  • Coordinate and monitor project implementation activities, identifying and surfacing any impediments to the project
  • Act as the main point of contact for government personnel and key stakeholders in Indonesia
  • Assist with other Vital Strategies duties as specified by supervisor

Qualifications and skill set:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in public health, environmental science, international development, public administration or project management
  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in environmental health with strong understanding of risk assessment, environmental epidemiology, and environmental policy
  • Fluency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities appropriately, schedule calls
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Access to consistent and reliable internet access
  • Prior work experience with international non-governmental organisations and the Indonesian government is an advantage
